“There’s a sprit in the air, it’s a time for change, are you gonna keep sitting quietly and let things just stay the same? What are you waiting for?” This is the question proposed by Nicholas on the opening track of Oak Chase Way, titled “How Many Times?” So, What are we waiting for? No doubt we can all relate to these sentiments. Each and every one of us has a laundry list of things we know we should be doing in our lives. We all want to feel good, be healthy and thrive, but instead are constantly making choices that lead us in the opposite direction. Why is that? We are distracted and derailed from our higher self and purpose by every day life. Instant gratification, convenience and fear tempt us into things that come with grave consequences both personally and globally. What ever happened to working hard, truly earning what you have, paying for things up front and then basking in the reward of accomplishment and the virtue of doing something good? Getting back to focusing on the truly important things is a central theme to this album. Many of the songs were written during a transformational period for Nicholas who, through a broken heart, allowed himself to go down the wrong path. He drank to numb the pain, ate poorly, slept all day, put on a bunch of weight and focused on all the negative things around him. He began having crippling panic attacks and eventually couldn’t even drive his own car. He had to hit rock bottom before he could really step back and look at the results of his actions and lifestyle. As if the broken heart wasn’t bad enough, now he had ruined his emotional and physical well being too. He knew he had to climb out of this hole he had dug for himself and with two steps forward and one step back he worked hard to keep progressing forward. He kept at it until he gained enough momentum to really start feeling good again. Through his dedication, focus and hard work he eventually lost over 100 pounds and even found love again. Through this empowering change Nicholas created for himself, was born a drive to help and share with others. True change, or better yet, a lasting transformation, starts with the individual first. The need to focus inward on our own lives, to find our purpose, and to live true to it are paramount if we want to truly thrive as people. Once we get ourselves straightened out and moving forward again, we can, as a whole, start working on the bigger global issues at hand. None of us want war, poverty, hunger, or to live in a polluted and contaminated environment but yet we still allow ourselves to partake and enable these activities. Why? We know better but why don’t we act accordingly? Oak Chase Way is a call to open our hearts and minds, and to look within to enable positive change in this world. With ongoing war, pollution, and poverty running rampant we can’t continue to turn a blind eye as to what is really happening in this world. We are all human beings living this existence together. There is abundance in this world, enough for everyone, yet we are driven by greed and fear instead of love and compassion. This album serves as a reminder to the things that really matter and the long, yet rewarding process of turning our own ships around and being able to act instinctively out of love. We need to think, focus and remain aware of all of our actions. We need to put ourselves in each other’s shoes and walk around a bit. Nicholas hopes this Album can serve as a catalyst for positive change with you, your loved ones and the entire world.
